A Grand Time for the Kents
First congratulations to the Kents who participated in the Mackinac island event, in celebration of their 125th Anniversary!
They played a tough game before bowing the the Saginaw Old Golds 14-10 in their opener. There were plenty of big Kents hits; not just enough to best the Old Golds.
The Kents then came back in the next game and defeated the Mount Clemens Regulators 4-3, with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, David Turner singled to start the rally, and scored on a double to right by Justin Buiter, who then had to leave the game with back spasms. Mackinac Island’s rules dictated that his pinch runner should be a youngster from the crowd, who just happened to be the son of the Regulators behind. I’m not a good judge of kid’s ages but I’d say he was about 8 years old and turned out to be as quick as a bunny. After Dave Ringler’s line drive bound out, our pinch runner scooted around to score the winning run on Mike DeJong’s two out base hit. The Kents were happy to give him the game ball for the A great way to end our day.
The Bay City Independents defeated the Old Golds to claim victory in the weekend’s event. For more photos from the weekend, courtesy of Melinda DeJonge, click HERE.
Our thanks to Jason Kladiva and the Grand Hotel for their hospitality!
The Kents will be in Ludington next weekend for their annual White Pine Village Tournament.
