The Heat was on in Sidney
The Kent Base Ball Club was hosted by the Sidney Stars this past Saturday at their annual Heritage Days event. Also present were the Fallasburg Cubs. This year’s tournament consisted of a round-robin schedule with each of the three teams facing each other once.
The Kents opened the day versus their friends from Fallasburg with a chance to make up for their defeat at the hands of the Cubs last month in Ludington. Things appeared bleak to start the contest as the Cubs tallied aces in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Kents’ lumber started making solid contact however, as the scored 10 unanswered aces over the next three frames to claim a 10-2 victory over their foes from Lowell.
After a mid-day lunch break, the Kents squared off against the host Stars, who had been defeated by the Cubs earlier in the day. Unfortunately, the warm weather took it’s toll on the Kents as they surrendered aces nearly every inning with an uncharacteristically poor defensive display and were unable to push any of their own across the plate as their bats wilted in the afternoon heat. They fell to the hosts by a score of 11-0.
In the end, each team finished the day at 1-1 to “share” the day’s honors. For a slideshow of the day, courtesy of Melinda DeJong, click HERE.
The Kents next scheduled contest is this weekend at Fallasburg.
