Kents Fall-asburg a Pair

The Kent Base Ball Club made their annual journey to historic Fallasburg Village this past Sunday for a pair of matches, one against the barnstorming Minnesota Union and the other against the host Fallasburg Cubs. Unfortunately, neither match turned out in favor of the Kents.

The KBBC Nine opened against the Union, who were participating in their fourth contest in two days after visiting other Michigan opponents on their tour of the Great Lakes State. Several new Kents were in uniform for the first time, including Jerrod “Gelff” Miller, Andy “Curly” Maddox and Jared Monsma, all of whom played well in their debut.

Each team tallied aces throughout the contest and the score stood at 8-8 at the completion of the agreed-upon seven innings. By mutual decision, the squads decided to play one more inning to settle the affair, before the Union Nine started their long journey home. In striking first, they tallied 3 more aces on a long strike past the Kents’ outfield scouts and held on for an 11-9 victory. It was, however, a pleasure to meet and play against our new friends from the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Huzzah!

The Kents followed their narrow loss with a third game against the Cubs over their last three events. Once again, the KBBC lumber proved frustrating as the team’s strikers could not get on track and they fell to the Cubs by a score of 12-5 in seven innings.

The Kents are scheduled to be off until the fall, with their next scheduled contest in early October. Please check the schedule for the latest updates.
